How should I wash organic cotton sherpa?

Each Snug Organics sherpa sleeper is made using top-quality organic cotton fabrics for durability, longevity and comfort. However, these garments need the proper care to maximize use and to maintain the original look and fit. We recommend machine washing in cold water and line drying (you may also machine dry on low.) Conventional cotton apparel is generally treated with finishing chemicals to reduce the shrinkage effects of heat. Organic cotton is not treated, so high heat will cause it to shrink a bit.

Using an eco-friendly laundry detergent with vinegar as a fabric softener will further help to maintain the integrity of the garment. For stains use an oxygen bleach, such as BioClean or OxyClean. Organic cotton will absorb chemicals in ordinary detergents. Investing in an organic cotton garment and then laundering it in a chemical pool defeats the purpose. Commercial detergents also contribute to skin and respiratory conditions in children.

Why are your sherpa sleepers so snug-fitting?

Our sleepwear is snug-fitting because it’s the law. CFR 1516/1616 states that children’s sleepwear must be flame-resistant or snug-fitting. In order to offer customers a natural fiber without chemicals or a high percentage of synthetics like polyester, we must comply with the snug-fit measurements put into place by the CPSC.  Although it may be necessary to size up for some children, you can be certain that your child is safe in our sleepwear.

Our sherpa sleepers somewhat behave like a new pair of jeans.  They stretch and mold to the body for a super comfortable fit.  We have also been told that some kiddos love the secure feeling that this fit provides.

What size sherpa sleeper should I order?

Our sleepers are pretty true to size, but many parents size up.  If you have a child in between sizes, size up.  Snug Organics sleepwear is made according to snug-fit measurements put into place by the CPSC to comply with CFR 1516/1616. The measurements are snug and it may be necessary to size up, especially for chubbier babies. The upper arm measurement is particularly tight, but is required by law. The overall (sleeveless) design may be a better fit for these kiddos.  Most children actually feel safe and secure in a snug-fitting pair of pajamas that stay in place as they twist and turn during the night.  They usually fit the average child just fine. Sizes are comparable to any other cotton snug-fit pajama carrying this tag:

Are your sherpa sleepers warm enough?

We assume your home is heated or cooled to around 68-72 degrees.  Our sleepers should keep your child warm enough at this temperature without blankets or a sleep sack.  However, you are the expert when it comes to your child.

Why is your summer sleepwear only in alternating sizes?

We sized our summer sleepwear in 2T, 4T, 6, 8 and skipped the sizes in between.  Due to CPSC snug-fit specs, the size increments were so slight that it was not necessary to include all sizes.  These sets fit true to size.  If your child is in between sizes, please size up.

What are the benefits of sleeping in 100% organic cotton?

Wearing a natural fiber that is breathable allows your little one to regulate his or her own body temperature.  Finishing chemicals used in conventional clothing to create stain, fire and wrinkle resistance and dyes, inks and pesticides contribute to the vulnerability of developing brains and body systems.

Why don't your sleepers have feet?

Our sleepers do not have feet and are more practical for quick growing toddlers who are just beginning to walk. We hope to be able to offer matching slippers in the near future.

Do you sell your sherpa sleepers wholesale?

No, we don’t.  Selling wholesale would require us to significantly cut costs.  This would affect the quality of our products and would force us to manufacture overseas.  We are happier creating super high quality sleepwear that is Made in the USA in a responsible way.  We offer a Community Discount on group orders instead.

Why should I invest in organic sleepwear for my child?

To exclusively dress your child in organic baby clothes and outfit their nurseries with organic baby bedding can be more expensive. However, by making a commitment to organic sleepwear, at least 50% of your child’s day will be spent in organics. The investment becomes minimal when looking at the harmful effects of flame-retardants, finishing chemicals and pesticides.
